The American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting 2016 brings together the Earth and space science community from across the globe for discussions of emerging trends and the latest research. The technical program includes presentations on new and cutting-edge science, much of which has not yet been published. The meeting sessions are held at San Francisco, California, from 12 to 16, December.
AgMIP will organize two sessions this year on December 16. The sessions, “Improving the Simulation of Climate Impacts on Agriculture: AgMIP and Related Research I Posters & II,” (Session I & Session II) will include presentations and posters on the topics of “climate change and variability,” “agricultural systems,” “impacts of global change” and “land/atmosphere interactions.” Twenty-seven papers in total will be presented in these two sessions.
One of the invited abstracts, “AgMIP 1.5°C Assessment: Mitigation and Adaptation at Coordinated Global and Regional Scales,” authored by Cynthia Rosenzweig, introduces 1.5°C Coordinated Global and Regional Integrated Assessments of Climate Change and Food Security and how it will lead to more consistent results and messages for stakeholders, policymakers, and the scientific community. CGRA builds upon existing AgMIP research groups and regional programs, with new protocols for cross-scale and cross-disciplinary linkages to ensure the propagation of expert judgment and consistent assumptions.
The AgMIP Town Hall will be held on Tuesday, 13 December 2016. In the town hall, Jonathan Winter, Bruno Basso and Sonali Prabhat McDermid from AgMIP will present their efforts linking the climate, crop, livestock, nutrition, and economics communities to produce the next generation of climate impact assessments for the agricultural sector. These presentations will engage the AGU community by providing an overview of AgMIP, soliciting feedback on the AgMIP 1.5°C protocols and other research plans, and identifying opportunities for participants to become involved in AgMIP.
